My awesome interest in Hospice began when I was a hospital social worker. In 1992, I had the opportunity to join my local hospice in Charlotte, North Carolina as a homecare social worker. During my early days I served as a co-host for a locally produced PBS show about hospice care. My career has allowed me to promote and facilitate discussions about end of life issues to politicians, universities, healthcare providers, and the general public. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work and consult for hospice organizations in North Carolina, Florida and Colorado.
Since joining Hospice of Northern Colorado in 2008, I have had the honor of serving with Weld County healthcare providers to establish and define a Palliative Care response to a hypothetical disease outbreak. In 2009, I received the Weld County Public Health Champion Award. I currently serve as the Director of Operations for Hospice of Northern Colorado where our team has been caring for individuals and their families since 1978.
We manage 50+volunteers and 50 health professionals to meet the needs of our community. In 2011, Hospice of Northern Colorado provided care to 688 patients in the northern Colorado region. With nonprofit status, we provide care to patients regardless of their ability to pay. On average we provide about $200,000 worth of free care annually. It is through continued community support, donations and fundraising that we are able to serve all hospice needs of those in our community. My passion is dedicated to promoting and maintaining hospice services locally for our nonprofit provider established by Weld County community volunteers. It is the focus of our agency to remain your provider of choice in Weld and Morgan Counties through the loving attention our team provides.
I was raised in North Carolina and received my Bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University and my graduate degree from Colorado State University. I have been married 21 years and have two teenage daughters. I feel blessed to represent hospice families and staff, past and present, who have given me the opportunity to travel on their journey of life.
